Bortoletto,Wilian Vinicius; Macedo,Willian Rodrigues; Oliveira,Thalyta Coelho de; Souza,Daniela Silva.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to investigate the potential physiological damage of the treatment of '97Y07RR' soybean seeds with different pesticides at different storage times, in order to define the optimal period of sowing. The germination rate, the germination speed index, and shoot fresh matter were evaluated. Thiamethoxam did not cause losses in seed vigor with increasing storage time; however, the other agrochemicals caused significant losses. Seed treatment should be performed up to 90 days before sowing.

Biochemical and physiological analysis in carrot seeds from different orders of umbels Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Patrícia Pereira da; Sekita,Marcelo Coelho; Dias,Denise Cunha Fernandes dos Santos; Nascimento,Warley Marcos.
ABSTRACT In carrot seed production, harvesting of the umbels is generally staggered, or sometimes the whole plant is harvested with the umbels at different stages of maturation; in that case, there is a risk of harvesting immature seeds and of losses due to natural dehiscent, or to physiological deterioration as a result of unfavourable environmental factors. The present study aimed to evaluate the physiological and biochemical changes related to the maturation of 'Planalto' carrot seeds from diferent umbels. The samples were collected 120 days after anthesis, with the primary, secondary and tertiary umbels being harvested separately. Seeds were analysed for germination, first count and germination rate, at temperatures of 25 ºC (optimum) to 35 ºC...

Carrot seed germination and vigor in response to temperature and umbel orders Scientia Agricola
Pereira,Roseane Sousa; Nascimento,Warley Marcos; Vieira,Jairo Vidal.
Several factors may influence carrot (Daucus carota L.) crop establishment. High temperatures (35 - 40°C), for instance, may delay or inhibit carrot seed germination in the field and so compromise the stand establishment. Carrot seeds from superior umbel orders usually have better physiological quality than those of lower umbel orders. These seeds from superior umbel orders may also show a better performance in adverse conditions. In addition, seeds from different ages show differences in vigor, which affect the stand establishment, mainly under adverse conditions. The aim of this study was to verify the germination at high temperatures and the carrot seed vigor of different umbel orders of 'Brasília', as well as the different 'Alvorada' seed lots....

Coelho,Stefânia Vilas Boas; Rosa,Sttela Dellyzete Veiga Franco da; Fantazzini,Tatiana Botelho; Baute,Júlia Lima; Silva,Luciano Coutinho.
ABSTRACT Coffee is one of the main agricultural commodities in the country, and it is important to conservation of plant material for breeding programs. Cryopreservation is a promising alternative for preserving in the long-term the germplasm of species considered recalcitrant. However, studies should be performed to achieve maximum survival of seedlings after immersion in liquid nitrogen. The objective of this work was to find a cryopreservation protocol for storing seeds of Coffea canephora, studying two methods of cryopreservation, slow and fast cooling. Seeds were subjected to drying in silica gel up to the water content of 0.25 g g-1. In the first experiment, dried seeds were subjected to treatments of slow cooling at speeds of -1 ºC min-1,-3 ºC min-1...

Development of methodology to test the electrical conductivity of Marandú grass seeds Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Melo,Paulo Alexandre Fernandes Rodrigues de; Martins,Cibele Chalita; Alves,Edna Ursulino; Vieira,Roberval Daiton.
ABSTRACT The electrical conductivity test enables the evaluation of seed vigor for a maximum period of 24 hours, but the need to count the seeds to obtain a sample for analysis makes it difficult to apply this test to small seeds, such as forage grasses. The objective of this study was to establish a practical methodology for testing the electrical conductivity of Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst. Ex A. Rich.) Stapf ‘Marandú’ seeds and to estimate its effect on seedling emergence in the field. The water content, germination, first germination count, first emergency count, percentage, and rate of seedling emergence speed in the laboratory, seedling emergence in the field, and electrical conductivity of eight batches of seeds was analyzed. In the last test, the...

Electrical conductivity as an indicator of pea seed aging of stored at different temperatures Scientia Agricola
Panobianco,Maristela; Vieira,Roberval Daiton; Perecin,Dilermando.
Research on soybean seed has revealed that conductivity test results may be influenced by storage temperature and that an apparent direct relationship between deterioration at low temperatures and loss of cellular membrane integrity is not evident. The objective of this study was to verify the influence of low storage temperatures on electrical conductivity results in other species, such as seeds of two pea cultivars studied temperatures were: 10, 20, 25, 20/10 and 25/10ºC. The physiological potential of the seeds was evaluated every three months during an 18 month storage period using germination, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity tests. The electrical conductivity test was not a good indicator for the degree of seed deterioration stored at...

Electrical conductivity of the seed soaking solution and soybean seedling emergence Scientia Agricola
Vieira,Roberval Daiton; Scappa Neto,Angelo; Bittencourt,Sonia Regina Mudrovitsch de; Panobianco,Maristela.
Vigor of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] seeds can be evaluated by measuring the electrical conductivity (EC) of the seed soaking solution, which has shown a satisfactory relationship with field seedling emergence, but has not had aproper definition of range yet. This work studies the relationship between EC and soybean seedling emergence both in the field and laboratory conditions, using twenty two seed lots. Seed water content, standard germination and vigor (EC, accelerated aging and cold tests) were evaluated under laboratory conditions using -0.03; -0.20; -0.40 and -0.60 MPa matric potentials, and field seedling emergence was also observed. There was direct relationship between EC and field seedling emergence (FE). Under laboratory conditions, a...

Eletrical conductivity and deterioration of soybean seeds exposed to different storage conditions Rev. bras. sementes
Panobianco,Maristela; Vieira,Roberval Daiton.
Research with soybean seeds has revealed that the results of the electrical conductivity test may be influenced by storage temperature, particularly low temperature, such as 10ºC, suggesting that seed deterioration at low storage temperatures does not seem to be directly related to the loss of the cell membrane integrity. This study was conducted with seeds of two soybean cultivars with the objective of: a) studying the effect of different storage temperatures (10ºC; 20ºC; 25ºC; 20/10ºC and 25/10ºC) on the results of the electrical conductivity test; b) observing the behavior of fatty acids and carbohydrates during storage and studying its relation with the electrical conductivity results. Essential oils in the control of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides f. Sp. cepae in onion seeds Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Lozada,Maria Isabel Ordonez; Silva,Patricia Pereira da; Pereira,Ricardo Borges; Nascimento,Warley Marcos.
ABSTRACT Anthracnose, one of the major diseases in the onion, is caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides f. sp. cepae. The main strategy for controlling this fungus is by the use of fungicide, with this technique being used on the majority of crops. Currently, methods of disease control are being studied that are less aggressive to the environment, with the use of essential oils proving to be an alternative. As such, the aim of this study was to evaluate the direct effect of the essential oils of basil (Ocimum basilicum), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus (DC) Stapf.), sage (Salvia officinalis), thyme (Thymus vulgaris) and citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus) as an alternative in the control of the fungus C. gloeosporioides f. sp. cepae, in...
